The Wyrd

The Wyrd is the universe and everything in it. It is much like the eastern concept of the Tao. Everything is made of it and it is made of everything. Of course, there is more to it than that.

The traditional image of the Wyrd is that of a tapestry still in the works. The past is the part that has part that has already been woven. It is finished and cannot be changed. The present is the part being woven right now. The future is unfinished and has not yet been decided.

Those three conditions tell us much about the Asatru understanding of time and destiny. The past is very clear. It cannot be changed, no matter what you do. Looking at the past can show you the patterns that have been woven before, but you cannot undo any of it. The past also shows how we got to the present.

The present is a little more complex. The threads of the present are rooted to the past. There isn't much wiggle room. However, there is a little room to start leaning one way or the other. That may not seem like much, but it sets the stage for the next step. The more you can wiggle, the greater the change that appears in the future.

The future is the part that is wide open. The further out, the greater the possible change. It is the changes that we make in the present that makes the big difference in the long run. The greater the effort we make in the present, the more we set the future.

How is this an Energy?

The trick to interacting directly with the Wyrd is that you connect the same way you work with your Hamingja. You must meditate, get a feel for the Wyrd, and then you can start looking at the slight variations that provide information.

The Wyrd permeates all things, including you. The tapestry analogy used above extends, but you have to see a three-dimensional weaving that builds up the whole of everything. (Note: eventually you can see that there are more than three dimensions involved, but that takes a lot of dedicated meditation.) As the physicists will tell you, matter and energy are ultimately just two states of the same thing. Well, the Wyrd is both the stuff and the energy from which the universe is built.

You first must learn to tap in and recognize the vibrations that mean certain things. After you build skill with that, you may be able to cause vibrations that will also cause the activities associated with those vibes. This will take time to develop.

How to Meditate on the Wyrd

The basic meditation is no different from any other meditation. Go to a place where you will not be disturbed. Clear your mind and relax your body. When ready, softly repeat the following lines:

Everything is of the Wyrd
The Wyrd is of everything
I am of the Wyrd
The Wyrd is of me

After repeating these lines for a while, you may enter a trance-like state. At this point, your mind will begin to pick up on the structure of the Wyrd. With practice, you will start to see individual waves, and eventually the individual strings there.

Conclusion

When you have strong Hamingja, your pattern and your will automatically cause a greater ripple in the Wyrd. Likewise, a strong Kinfylga causes a larger ripple. The size of your ripple in the Wyrd determines your effect of the Wyrd. It changes how much you influence your future and the future of those around you.
