The Next Level

Once the basics are handled, and things are stable, you might want to look at growing beyond your needs. Consider investing for growth. When you invest properly, you not only gain a profit, but you are helping others build as well. That's a good thing.

The Havamal says, "Better a hovel of your own than to be a beggar." That sounds like you should consider getting a little bit of real estate. Try to own at least your own dwelling. Real estate can also be a good investment, if you are careful and take the long, slow road about it. If nothing else, it is a place to stay and to anchor your familial roots.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with being rich and doing good with your resources. Cattle die, kinsmen die, and you too shall die; all that lives forever in this world is one's reputation. (This is true for most of us, but there are some exceptions.) Don't be a jerk with your money. Try to be looked on fondly. At the same time, don't be an idiot.
