Family Worship

The family should be dressed appropriately for the worship environment, but as respectfully as they can. The family should eat a light meal and be properly hydrated before heading to the place of worship. During the meal, the parents and other adults should tell the children about Vidar and His place in things. The children should understand their responsibilities in the ceremony as well as why you perform it.

The family should choose one person to act as their representative. This person will speak the words and offer the leather. This decision should be made in advance of heading to the worship area so that there is no need for discussion in the quiet place.

When ready, go to the quiet place of worship. The designated speaker should lead the group to the location if possible. Everyone should be quiet. Small children may not be cooperative in this, but Vidar understands and is not upset by it.

When the group arrives, they gather around the speaker to form a loose circle. The speaker turns to face them. All are quiet.

The speaker takes several deep, quiet breaths, and on the last exhale whispers, "Vidar"

After a couple of heartbeats, the speaker says:

We are here to give our respects to Vidar, Son of Odin and to ask His wisdom.
We give thanks, great Vidar for Your guidance.
We work to make the future stronger for the Aesir and their allies in the nine worlds.
Please guide us, Great Vidar, so that we can shape the world to Your designs.

At this point, everyone closes his or her eyes and listens for the silence. There may be sounds, but everyone must try to find the spaces in between them. That is where you will find the ancient silence. It is in that old silence that you will find Vidar.

The speaker says:

Let the silence still your mind and let your vision drift across the coming ages. See what can be seen and find the peace of eternity.

The group stays quiet for a few more minutes.

The speaker raises the leather in his or her hands and says:

In the future, Vidar will face His foe. We offer up this leather to sturdy his boot that it will resist the teeth of the beast.

The speaker turns away from the group and, still holding up the leather, says softly:

Great Vidar, we offer You this gift, small as it is to show that we support You now and in the future. Please take this gift and know that You have allies.

The speaker places the leather on a natural surface.

The speaker turns to face the family again and says:

As we depart here, take with you the peace given by the silence and let it still your worries. Know that we go forward with the responsibility to make the future better for those who come after us and for the allies of the Aesir. Know that Vidar watches our future and that we are His allies.

The family leaves the place of worship in silence, with the speaker following in the rear.
